The Centred Mums Network

Centred Mums classes are built on a foundation of Pilates, but we are strong believers in a holistic approach and have seen, first-hand, how progress can be enhanced when our classes are combined with the benefits of other disciplines; from nutrition to meditation and hypnobirthing.

Our work has brought us into contact with many specialists who now form part of the support network we’ve built for mums-to-be, new mums – and mums who’ve been in the job for a while!

Here are some of our favourites:

Acupuncture can be safely and effectively used in pregnancy to treat a variety of symptoms including morning sickness, anxiety, insomnia, moving a breech baby, pre-birth preparation for your due date and inductions. I have been working with pregnant women since 1992 supporting and empowering them through their own unique journeys. Postnatal  acupuncture can be used to improve your milk supply, help you cope with mastitis and strengthen/re balance your body to help low moods and tiredness.

Hypnobirthing Antenatal Classes

Louise Balm

I have been a registered Midwife since 1998. I have taught Hypnobirthing classes since 2009 to over 1,000 expectant couples in 1-2-1’s and group classes. These are taught from my relaxing studio at home in St Albans or online over Zoom. I am also a Birth Doula and Placenta Specialist, and Hypnobirthing mum to two wonderful daughters.

Hypnobirthing is a great choice for childbirth education, as it is a complete antenatal preparation course, covering everything you and your partner need to prepare you both for the right birth on the day.

This programme will teach you how to relax emotionally and physically, and plan for a positive birth experience and a feeling of success no matter what path your birth takes. You will learn breathing and relaxation techniques to help reduce fear and anxiety, so that you enjoy a calmer, more relaxed pregnancy, and easier, more comfortable birth. Classes also cover birth physiology, stages of labour, birth positions, birth planning and birth partner’s role.

By the time your baby is ready, you will be feeling calm, confident, and looking forward to birthing your baby!

Jo has been a Pilates teacher and functional trainer for over 20 years and an Osteopath for the last ten. She primarily focuses on helping women through pregnancy to get rid of pelvic pain and allow for an easier birth by helping to address restrictions, pain and imbalances which may prevent baby entering the pelvis in the best way. She then works on helping mum to heal postnatally in the optimal way, to get rid of pain, rebalance the pelvis and tissues to ensure the body can heal well, and to allow the core and pelvic floor muscles restore to a place of tension and regaining of strength long term.

Emma Bailey

Emma Bailey is a Registered Osteopath who has worked in private practice in St Albans for over 30 years. Her work is a vocation and she firmly believe sOsteopathic Treatment is a valuable health care approach that many types of mechanical and functional problems within our bodies benefit from, at all stages of life.

Emma has always enjoyed collaborating with other health professionals to provide my patients with as holistic an approach as possible. The basis of Pilates works very well with Osteopathic principles, and especially well with the mechanical changes and stresses during pregnancy, birth and after. Emma is fully confident with Grace and Joanna’s expertise with their clients and feels that a combined approach with communication between us can be invaluable.

Samantha Harris

“I always look forward to attending Grace’s classes and I love how I feel after going to them. The aches have disappeared, my posture feels completely different and my mind is calmer. In addition Grace was the person who identified and has virtually fixed my diastasis recti (not the doctor). I can safely say if I hadn’t been for her I would still be suffering with backache. A wonderful class and one that I would highly recommend to anyone.”

“I have been going to Grace’s pregnancy group classes, the post-natal classes and had 1:1 sessions with her during my two pregnancies over the last couple of years. Grace is the best pilates teacher I’ve ever had! She possesses an enormous wealth of knowledge on pregnancy and post-natal pilates, and she is constantly expanding this knowledge, for example, now into hypnobirthing…”

Alex Ball

“I have been attending one of Grace’s classes for almost a year now after a recommendation from a friend. I had diastasis recti (separation of my abdominal muscles) following my first & second child so was keen to strengthen my core & know what I should & shouldn’t do in terms of regular exercise.
